Natural Ametrine is formed from a quartz stone that crosses the color zone between amethyst & citrine to create a unique color.
The sole source of this gem is the Anahi mine in Bolivia. It was discovered by a Spanish explorer in the 1600s. He gave some unique Ametrine stones to the Queen of Spain. She gave the mine to him as a dowry during her wedding to the native princess Anahi.
After more than 3 centuries of being lost, the mine named after the legendary princess Anahi has been exploited again since 1970.
In mineralogy, Ametrine belongs to the quartz group with the main chemical composition being SiO2, hardness 7.
