Different colors of tourmaline are thought to have their own healing properties. Black tourmaline is believed to protect the wearer and give a sense of self-confidence. Pink tourmaline embodies love and is associated with compassion and gentleness. Green Tourmaline promotes courage, strength, and stamina.

Tourmaline comes in an exciting variety of colors with one of the widest color ranges of any Gemstone.
Tourmaline is the Gem of October and the 8th Wedding Anniversary.
Tourmaline is derived from the Sinhalese word "toromalli" which means mixed gems. This is the Dutch merchant's term for the multicolored, dark stones that miners found in the sandstones of Sri Lanka.
Ancient mystics believed that tourmaline could encourage the artistic intuition of "color mixing".
Various colors of Tourmaline: Rich Red, Pink & Peach, Emerald Green & Yellow, Blue & Violet, Black & Brown.
- Rubbellite: Pink, Red, Purplish Red, Orangy Red, or Brownish Red Tourmaline.
- Indicolite: Dark Violetish Blue, Blue, or Greenish Blue Tourmaline.
- Paraíba : Intense Violetish Blue, Greenish Blue, or Blue Tourmaline by local name was first found in Paraíba, Brazil.
- Chrome Tourmaline: Intense Green is colored primarily with vanadium, the same element that gives color to many Brazilian Emeralds and African Emeralds.
- “Parti-colored” Tourmalines: Available in 2 or more colors, most commonly Green and Pink such as Watermelon Tourmaline and Liddicoatite Tourmaline.
- Watermelon Tourmaline: Pink in the middle and Green around the outside. Crystals of this material are often cut into slices to show this particular arrangement.
- “Bicolor” Tourmaline: has 2 distinct color zones.
Black Tourmaline is said to protect the wearer and give a sense of confidence. Pink Tourmaline embodies love and is associated with compassion and tenderness. Green Tourmaline green promotes courage, strength and stamina.

Brazil is one of the world's main sources of tourmaline. Others includeAfghanistan, Kenya , Madagascar , Mozambique , Namibia , Nigeria, Pakistan , Russia , Sri Lanka , Tanzania , the United States and Zambia . In Vietnam, Tourmaline is mined in Luc Yen, Yen Bai and Bac Kan mines .
