Natural Peridot Jewelry
Peridot is the yellowish-green to greenish-yellow gem variety of the mineral olivine. Most peridots formed deep inside the Earth and were delivered to the surface by volcanoes. Some also came to Earth in meteorites, but this extraterrestrial peridot is extremely rare.
Peridot, known as the 'gem of the sun,' is a captivating mineral that has adorned jewelry for centuries. Its unique color and origins have made it a cherished gemstone among enthusiasts and collectors alike
Peridot is the August birthstone and the gemstone for the 15th wedding anniversary. This gemstone is compatible with the Fire and Wood elements, associated with the ♌︎ Leo zodiac sign and the year of the Monkey.
The ancient Egyptians mined peridot on the Red Sea island of Zabargad, the source for many large fine peridots in the world’s museums. The Egyptians called it the “gem of the sun.” Today this gem is still prized for its restful yellowish green hues and long history. Large strongly-colored, examples can be spectacular, and attractive smaller gems are available for jewelry at all price points.
Peridot rocks form under extreme conditions such as in volcanic lava, as does Pallasitic Peridot in meteorites falling to Earth from space. In 2005, Peridot was found in comet dust brought back from the robotic space probe Stardust.
