Jadeite and Nephrite
Jade, also known as Bì (璧) or Fěicuì (翡翠), is one of the oldest gemstones, with a history of over 7,000 years. However, it wasn't until 1863 that mineralogists clearly distinguished jade into two different minerals: nephrite and jadeite.
- Jadeite Jade: Found in green, white, pink, red, black, brown, and purple. The most valuable color, Imperial green, is exclusive to jadeite. It has higher transparency and luster, with a hardness of 6.5 - 7.0.
- Nephrite Jade: Colors range from medium to dark green or greyish-green, as well as white, yellowish, or reddish. Hardness of 6.0 - 6.5.
Jadeite is rarer and more valuable than nephrite, with Burmese jadeite jade from Myanmar being regarded as the finest in the world, celebrated for its vibrant colors and superior quality.
Spiritual and Cultural Significance
Jade's purity and durability inspire the highest spiritual aspirations of its wearer. Humanity has never lost its fascination with jade, drawn to its rich heritage, beauty, and rarity.
