AGS - American Gem Society

AGS - American Gem Society

American Gem Society – AGS was founded in 1934 by Sir Robert M. Shipley, Founder of GIA - the Gemological Institute of America, and a group of leading jewelers.

The goal was to create an organization that would help the jewelry-buying public avoid fraud and false advertising.

About 3,400 jewelers, retailers, suppliers, and business owners have joined the Gemological Association of America. Only one in twenty jewelers met the required requirements.

To join AGS, each member must go through a registration process. It is then assessed by an annual recertification exam. This process ensures that every member of AGS is at all times following the same “rules of the game” and more importantly is confident in its commitment to consumer protection.
