How to measure your ring size

We provide two easy methods to measure your ring size accurately at home:

1. Measure your finger

Method 1: Using a ring sizer tool

  • The most accurate way to measure your finger is by using a professional ring sizer. These tools provide an exact measurement for your ring size.

Method 2: Using paper or thread

If you don’t have a ring sizer, you can still measure your ring size at home with a simple strip of paper or wide thread.

  • Step 1: Wrap a strip of paper or thread around your finger, ensuring there's enough room to comfortably slide the ring over your knuckle.
  • Step 2: Mark where the ends meet.
  • Step 3: Measure the length of the paper or thread with a ruler. This gives you the circumference of your finger in millimeters (mm).

To find the diameter, divide the circumference by 3.14 (e.g., if the circumference is 55 mm, 55 ÷ 3.14 = 17.5 mm in diameter). Refer to our ring size chart to find the closest match to your measurement.

Tip: If your measurement falls between two sizes, we recommend choosing the larger size for a comfortable fit. For wider rings, opt for a slightly bigger size, while for slimmer rings, a smaller size may be ideal (e.g., 0.5 size smaller).

2. Measure an Existing Ring

If you already own a ring that fits perfectly, use this method to find your size:

  • Step 1: Place the ring on a flat surface.
  • Step 2: Measure the inside diameter at the widest part using a ruler.
  • Compare this measurement with our ring size chart to find the corresponding size.

Important tips:

  • Your dominant hand’s fingers are generally larger than your non-dominant hand’s fingers, so measure accordingly.
  • Consider the Width: Wider rings may require a larger size for comfort.
  • Measure at the Right Time: Fingers can swell during the day, so measure at the end of the day for the most accurate size.
  • Account for Temperature: Finger sizes can change throughout the day due to temperature fluctuations, water retention, or medication, so it's best to measure when your hands are at a neutral temperature.
  • The ring needs to fit over the knuckle: If your knuckle is larger than the base of your finger, choose a ring size that can comfortably slide over the knuckle without being too tight or too loose.

How to find the perfect ring size for every finger

At AME Jewellery, we love helping our customers create their own unique style by stacking rings on every finger. But one of the trickiest parts of choosing rings for different fingers is knowing the right size for each one.

There's a simple rule of thumb to estimate your ring size for every finger, and all you need is the size of your ring finger (referred to as "x" in the chart).

ring size for every finger

For example, if your ring finger is a size 12, you can easily estimate that your pinky will likely be a size 13, your middle finger a size 13, your index finger a size 8, and your thumb a size 14.

With this quick method, you'll always find the perfect fit for every finger.
